  1. Respected Mam,
we have many things to share regarding our training ,i had my training had Oswal woolen it was great learning experience most of industrial visits should be encouraged so that we can come to know about in and out of company how its working.. we learnt export terminology like the words LOC ie letter of credit ,bill of ladding ,performa invoice were hardly known to us ,how shipment is done, how difficult it is to find a buyer abroad ,how to trust them ..many of the people have put up fraud details on the internet how we can make sure that we are dealing with the right parties.. for this there is export promotion council which has agents in different countries to promote their product they act as an interface bw govt and exporters.. help the indian market to grow at global level..promote trade in different countries.
we even learnt that star export houses who have turnover of 100 cr get special incentives from the government

well i think in international hr we should study the hr poilicies of atleast top 20 fortune companies ,how important hr is for the company, what role hr manager plays in a company ,how many people work under him, why people in ludhiana or companies in ludhiana although big are not promoting hr why they dont require professional hr people??

i hope we will get answers to all questions

    thanks a lot mam

  2. hello mam...
I did my training at Big-Ben exports which deals in bicycle parts and spares. people at middle level in the organisation were enthusiastic about their work but i could not see any seperate department for managing human resource. The firm faced problem of labour shortage at the lower level and i could see even if their supervisors tried to motivate them to work harder for increased wages they seemed a little reluctant.
Apart from that mam, i want to know what exactly is the task of a HR manager and if its so important for an organisation why dont we see HR departments in most of the organisations here in ludhiana. Does efforts of the HR manager really help motivating the workforce? please suggest 1-2 examples...thankyou

  3. hello mam

My industrial training was in Pruthi International, exporters of knitwear and woven garments.Overall it was a great practical exposure, got to learn a lot about export business. How the world has become so small and easily approachable.Even though Ludhiana is having a great potential and opportunity to expand in international market especially the textile industry but what i found was the exporters are facing a lot of problems because of unfavorable government policies and poor infrastructure facilities provided to them.Though the exporters are helping the country in not only having a global presence but also increasing the value of currency but still i found the government is not supporting them.
Apart from this i found that even though they have HR departments but they are not having any proper policies for their employees as in MNCs.If the presence of such department or policies is necessary for any company then why dont the business houses in Ludhiana give it an importance.
Mam i want to know why HR department and hiring of hr professionals is important for any firm because even though the companies in Ludhiana do have HR departments but they lack in professionalism and also want to know what is the difference in HRM and IHRM?

  4. hello mam,
i did my summer training at the forex department of aixs bank, mall road branch. over all it was a good learning experience as well as a reflection of what working in corporate sector actually means, specially in banks. where the main thing for the employees is the sales target. performance of the employee is measured by taking SALES as the key factor.
but professionalism is also something that i saw here.
even we, the trainees, were treated professionally.
i learnt about the various bank formalities while taking loans, specially for exports and also about many other departments of the bank.
talking about HR, well major decisions about hr were all taken at the regional head office in delhi, whether it be appointment of new employees, their retention or retainment.

in the course i would basically like to know that what are the major factors affecting the decisions related to formation of hr policies of an organisation. and if we could possibly discuss the various HR policies of some of the fortune 500 companies.

    Regards,

  5. Hello Mam,

I did my training in the exports department of IOL Chemicals and Pharmaceuticals Ltd. which was great learning experience. I came to know about the corporate life. My sitting was in commercial marketing and purchase department of Pharmaceuticals unit. Over there I came to know how they purchase the raw materials domestically or import. I learnt how they do marketing as the company is 2nd largest in India and 5th largest in the world in their Ibuprofen and the marketing in the company is done on phone only.
As for HR is concerned, employees are satisfied, being this the employee turnover of the company is very high because of the less salary packages given by the company as compared to the companies in its competition. As HR decisions are considered, HR manager has to discuss with the top authorities before taking any decisions.
Mam, I want to know why HR department is working in companies of Ludhiana as it is in the MNCs. HR being the important department is not receiving much importance and what will be the future of these companies?

  7. Hello mam
I had my training had Oswal Woollen Mills ltd. Ludhiana. It was great learning experience. Employees of the company are satisfied .they don’t want to leave the company as they are satisfied and company rarely fire the employees. Life of 9 -6 makes them satisfied what I came to know. I learnt export terminology like the words bill of lading ,Performa invoice were hardly known to us(practical view) ,how shipment is done, how difficult it is to find a buyer abroad ,how to trust them , different problems of the exporters and their issues with the government with withdrawing of incentives in this field time by time. And also the role of export promotion council which acts a link between a govt and industry, but due to lack of govt help, its also not effective. We even learnt that star export houses get special incentives from the government

Well i think in international hr we should study the hr policies of top fortune companies, how important hr is for the company, what role hr manager plays in a company, how many people work under him, why companies in Ludhiana although big are not promoting hr, why they don’t require professional hr people??

  9. Hello Mam,
I did my training at Apar Industries Ltd., Mumbai which is an exporter of petroleum oils and electronic conductors. I joined my training at the treasury department of Apar Industries where i came to know about several incoterms such as FOB, CIF, etc.It was good experience as i prepared documents for the company too such as purchase invoices, etc.I also came to know about the export procedure and what are the risk that the company is facing in International Business.
As far as HR practices is concerned, the employees were very much satisfied by the company and were getting proper increment in their salary as per their performance. Even I as a trainee was given professional treatment over there.
Apart from this mam I would like to know what is the advantage of studying IHRM if I am into International Business field and what makes it different from HRM as far as International Business is concerned and also what should i do to make companies aware about the differences between International HRM and HRM?

  10. hello mam...
I have done my training in Export Credit Guarantee Corporation of India Limited (ECGC). Its a government organization, it provides credit insurance to exporters and export credit insurance cover to banks. It was a great learning experience.
I came to know about the various risks faced by exporters in their business and how to get insured against these risks. I learn about the various policies and guarantees provided to exporters and banks respectively according to their needs. I know about what are the various types of finances available to exporters from banks.
Now talking about HR, all the decisions about HR are taken at head office of ECGC which is in Mumbai like recruitment is done by conducting exam and other decisions are also taken at HO only.
Mam I want to know how IHRM will help me in my own business and how can I do better by learning IHRM besides learning HRM?

  11. good evening mam.
i did my training at bhogal cycles which is the largest producer of vending carts in India and moreover kwality walls purchases it whole lot from bhogal cycles only.well as such they dont have so big departments all the departments are managed by either 1 or 2 persons.i sat in marketing and sales department.there i got to learn about how they create market for their products and how they do exports.i learned about the export documentation like letter of credit, bill of lading etc. as such they dont have hr department there but all the recruitment's are made by the owner of company by conducting interviews.on a whole my experience there was great as i got to know about the key things necessary to work in an organisation.

  12. Hello ma'am
I have done my 8 weeks training at IOL Chemicals and Pharmaceutical Limited. It was one of the most learning experiences for me while doing MBA. IOLCP is the second largest Chemicals and API manufacturing company in India. The basic strength of the company is its quality.
In IOLCP, i have observed Excise department plays a very important role. As all products over there are manufactured from alcohol and government is having control over purchase of alcohol, so permission is required to be taken from government for the purchase of alcohol.
In marketing department, negotiation goes over there for the purchase of raw material and sales of finished product. So, smart people are required in marketing department. But employees over there are not satisfied with there salary. So, Company is facing problem in retaining employees. It should increase the salary of the employees and organize some cultural activities for them in order to motivate employees.
About IHRM, I would like to know does doing MBA in international Business really help in getting job as a HR manager in MNCs. As far as I know companies are looking for MBA students who have done specialization in HR. I would also like to know that where IB students can be placed best in India if they go for HR.

    Thanks and Regards,

  13. Hello Ma'am,
I have done my training in Arti International Ltd., Chandigarh road, Ludhiana. Aarti International Ltd. is an EOU exclusively dealing in 100% cotton yarn exports. I have done my training in marketing department but I gave equal importance to other departments too, So spent 4 or 5 days in each of other departments. While doing training at Aarti, I came to know about prchasing of cotton, production of yarn & how packaging & marketing is done, as it hold much relevance in export purpose. I came to know about multicultural issues in HR department & how they have solved this problem by following spiritual values & creating integration among the employees. They are also awarded with "Spirituality At Work Place Award", as they are able to create such an atmosphere for employees that has reduced labor turnover & created satisfaction among employees.
As per my knowledge, I would like to say that an HR manager is like a mother who understands needs of each and every employee in the organization & correlate those needs with the organizational objectives, so that both employees & organization can work effectivey & efficiently.

  14. Hello Mam,
I did my training at Avon Cycles Limited. Its one of the leading exporter of bicycle/ bicycle parts in India. I learned documentation, process to execute an order, various problems faced by the bicycle industry in Punjab and the government support provided to this industry.
Avon Cycles has an organized staff working. Its major problem is with the workers. Its shortage, improper working, frequent strikes, etc. But compared to other orgasnizations in Ludhiana, Avon Cycles Ltd. has better departmentalisation, but being one of the leading exporter, the company got to have a well established human resource, which it does not have. The company lacks the professionalism in context to international trade. This problem is not prevalent not only in this company, but in most of the companies in Punjab.
Mam, I want to know that is HRM that important to a company, considering the fact that companies like Avon Cycles do not follow it and has a well established name and reputation? Also, that as organizations know about the importance of subjects like finance, quality management, etc., when will HRM gain importance?

  15. Good Evening Mam,
I am Reetika Gupta. I have done my training from vardhman textile limited. I have learnt lots of interesting things during my training. I have learnt about export procedure and documentation. I have learnt about their different unit’s warehouses and ERP software. I have come to know about their leftover stocks and what are the main reasons for the left over stocks and in which market leftover stocks should be liquidated and how to calculate the optimum level. We (Karan Kapoor and Reetika Gupta) were working on same project “Analysis Of export left over stocks of vardhman Textile limited” and we together reduced their leftover stocks from 1800 tonnes to 1526 tonnes. But their optimum level is 1300 tonnes
Apart From this I have analysed their Hr Policies. Mam, Vardhman is the company which is opting and implementing Hr policies in large scale like for development and for enhancing the communication skills of employees various professionalist from Pcte has been invited. They have different rules for their trainees, Like Lunch time is fixed, Departure time is fixed No body was allowed to sit after 5,A lot of formalities for getting certificate, Report to H.O.D before leaving, Identity Card and induction programs etc. Overall experience in Vardhman is very nice.
Apart from this I would like to know that after mergers and acquisitions of two companies what is the role of Hr. How In that situation Hr team works. Which company‘s rules and policies implement after mergers. What should India based company do to develop their Hr policies so that they can also be in list of Fortune List. Where India is lacking??

    Regards

  18. Hello Mam,
i did my training in VARDHMAN.My project was all about related to leftover stock of vardhman textiles limited. The company was well known about their leftover stock. But they did not know how much they had leftover stock? In which unit they had leftover stock?
We (KARAN KAPOOR & REETIKA GUPTA) took report from company related to export stocks. Then we convert that unit wise and then we understand how much & in which unit they have leftover stock. Then next step was to know the reasons why they had so much leftover stock in their warehouse. Then last step was to see the feasibility of leftover stock. In which market the stock will be re used? Whether left stock will be re exported, shifted to domestic, and kept in stock etc.The optimum level in the beginning they wanted to achieve was 1300 tonnes, But we were able to reduce to 1526 from 1800 tonnes.
Overall the experience was very nice. Personally i learnt allot about textile products, manufacturing and export procedure etc. & i learnt that there is huge difference in theories and all that and in practicality.

Apart from this i want to share one more thing with u mam, what I have observed as a trainee regarding Hr Issue.
There were two trainees from Delhi. Their training was started in month of May. We have joined there in first week of June. They used to sit in vardhman till 7 and used to come in vardhman near about 11.One girl was living in her relative home and boy was living in Pg. The main reason to sit for so long that they wanted to finish their work as soon as possible and they wanted to pass their time as they had nothing to do after leaving vardhman. But HR Manager Mr Ravijot had problem with their long sitting till 7. Acc to him sitting after 5 is against their Hr Policy. So he talked to them. Trainees thought Dept has problem with girl and boy sitting together. So they talked with their mentors and told their personal reasons to sit their so long. But mentors can not do anything as it was HR Policy. So in the end they agreed to go back from Vardhman at 5.

After this incidence they were strict with us even. They fixed the time of attendance for us i.e. 9.30.before this incidence we were allowed to mark the attendance till 10.30 even.
So indirectly we suffered. But on their side they were right as well, because they had their HR policies. They can't break that for two trainees.

This is my project all about and one problem i faced there.

  19. Hello mam
I did my summer training at Bhogal Cycles,Dhandari Kalan,Ludhiana.Basically Bhogal group is the first manufacturer of bicycles but due to less marketing efforts by the members it is not much prevelent in Ludhiana but it is having high exports in european countries like Denmark,Sweden,Germany and some other parts of world. And particularly about Bhogal Cycle it is one of the biggest manufacturer of vending carts in India and exporter as well..

Now talking about the things which I learnt from my training..first of all its Patience,as mam no one over there was interested in dealing with the trainees may be because of there high work pressure or may be as we are just liabilities on them and the second thing is that for getting your work done either you need to have reference or you should know the skills that how to take out your work from others...over there I also learnt about export procedures and about various documents being used during exports and according to my project advisor one thing was that "how not to do a particular work"...but firstly doing it that way and then not getting the appropriate results...

About HR, Bhogal Cycle is just new to the group and is not having HR department as such but all the issues realating to the HR of the company are seen by one of the partener of the Bhogal Cycle..and the recruitment of employees over there is done with the help of contractors..
at the managerial level there are not much employees..only 5-6 people are there who are managing sales, purchase and marketing dept. of the firm...

All in all it was a gud experience of these two months and learnt various new things out of it..

  20. Hello ma'am,
I have done my summer internship with Gates India Private Ltd which is US subsidiary of Gates Corporation which has been acquired by Tomkins and Gates is the largest Hose manufacturer with production and trading centers around the world. It was great experience. It helped me develop a practical mindset , I was basically assigned the task of marketing which was not related to selling but pre-market research, whereby the market share of various companies like Caterpillar, JCB, Escorts, Tata was analyzed and the share of Gates product that was being used by the company in producing their final product was determined to see if the companies are still using Gates product or are they losing on some share, Analyzing the imports of similar hose products of different companies coming into India and giving an opportunity to Gates by letting them know the place where they can gain and can tap extra market share, and also providing them with the price comparison analysis of their product in term of its competitors(Parker and Manuli).
Thus in short this company has helped me improve my entrepreneurship skill
And as far as human resource is concerned the HR head is very strict about the discipline within the org. different dept moves in coordination with each other, HR head himself looks into arising matters and takes initiative to look after the welfare of employees. Being a manufacturing concern conflicts between labor employees is often but strict measures are taken against the defaulter. Rest the company provides a safe and developing environment for all the employees in the organization.

I did my summer training in EVELINE INTERNATIONAL,which manufactures and exports garments to the brands which are known globally. It was really a great experience.I have learnt about the sampling and production process of knitted garments.from the making of the fabrics, dyeing, printing till the finishing of the garment.i have learned about the different types of fabrics, washing types and printings.practically i have done sampling under the guidance of Mr.Anil, who is a merchandiser in sampling. The employees in production working in Eveline are very cooperative and helpful. They work together in a team and tried to meet the deadlines of the orders. They are connected with every departments from the purchase of yarn till the packaging & finishing departments.
There is a separate Human resource department which follow the policies as laid down by the company.they also follow the rules regarding child labor, proper working conditions as laid by their buyers. Also they conduct seminars, training programs for the labors.
The main problem they faced is of scarcity of skilled labor.they have a labor on contract basis and to solve their problems they contact to consultants.
well in the course of IHRM ,i would like to know about the HR Practices being done in the renowned companies who have marked their presence globally.

I did my training at G.S.AUTOS INTERNATIONAL. It is one of the leading automobile fastening and suspension components in North India .It has been partnering the Indian Automotive Industry since last number of years. It was a good learning experience .The staff there was very co operative. I did my training under asst marketing head. The main work done by him was to execute the export orders and explore the markets abroad. There I came to know about the potential of Indian auto components industry.

As other departments are concerned I came to know about the marketing strategies been followed by the Company in India and abroad.

HR is the key asset of an organization. At G.S.AUTO, the top management is of view that organization will grow only and only if each and every employee of the organization will grow. The Company provides ample opportunities to employees to enhance their knowledge and skill, which will ultimately contribute to the growth of the organization. The Company organizes celebration of festivals at various locations.

Mam as far as our course is concerned I think at the end of every lecture may be 5-7 seven minutes may be given to discuss about HR news .. So that at the end of semester we are updated about each and every Company . Every company cant be covered may be best Companies of world .

  26. Good evening mam,
This is my 1st comment on your blog.I did my training from ORIENT CRAFT LTD, GURGAON.This company basically deals with exports of ready made garments and home furnishing. In short this is comapny is making garments for the the big companies like Tommy,Armani,Debenams,Fcuk,CK etc. This company has St Oliver as its franchise India like 40% sharein that.Next time you visit St Oliver do check out the price tag there will be something written as manufactured by OCBRANDS.This is the no1 export house in India.

This was just a brief abot the company.I was under the export department so i was not that much exposed with the Hr dept but there many observation by me.I use to go to the office daily as it was mandatory. It was like 1030 - 1730 hrs.Export department was basically cally the corporate there as all the operations were handled from there,it had finance, banking, accounts, personnel and export dept. This was first tym i had worked in a company before this i jst had an imaginary picture of how the departments will be segregated. But the experience was totaly amazing. It was a great experience for me like i was away from the home for the 1st tym in my life.

The comapny has 5 units and 35000 employees. As this is a garment company so main purpose of it is to get the design approved by the foreign buyer so these employ people from high level fashion institute like NIFD,PEARL etc.So selection process is the main. The rest are employed normally. It contains a mix of permanent and temporary labourers. There main stress is on quality and packing as the buyers are very strict about these two things.

But the people are not that much stressed out there cuz there is a lil bit of foreign culture like mon-sat work and sat nite enjoy. They enjoy sat to the fullest.I have seen there that on sat people go to bowling, movies, clubbing etc.Sat is the most happening there.

There were many things which i learned like how to manage your time, how to sit in the office for 6 hrs when there is no work.I had to travel by local transport as i didn't have my personal vehicle. This was the best experience i had as i have not traveled by auto, bus etc in Ldh that much.So it was a memorable experience. The company people were very lively and supportive. The most interesting part was when CCD were being involved so everyone was like will it have a mic 2-3 people were excited and scared but it was nice.

Now about IHRM i guess it will be all issues related to foreign companies or countries. All the problems from starting till the end ie recruitment till retention. There can also be something regarding multiculturalism and how it affects the working of the organisation.
Rest you are there to guide us.
    :)

  27. Hello Mam,
I did my summer training at Vardhman Textiles Ltd.(LDH).It was really nice experience. My Project was on Foreign Bank Charges and nature of Discrepancies in Hongkong and China market. One thing i wanted to share about training is that all employees were very cooperative.I have studied the LCs of Hongkong and China customers to know the different charges that are levied on the Vardhman by the foreign banks. In the begining i found it very difficult to sit in front of laptop and work for 7-8hrs daily, but after 15-20days,it looked normal to work there. There was HR assistant HR manager,Mr. Ravijot Singh, who was taking care of all the issues of trainees.
HR policies are strictly followed in the company.we were 5 trainees from PCTE there.we had to mark our attendence in the morning at 9.30.One day we were late and we were not allowed to mark our attendance.casuals were strictly prohibited. One day 2-3 trainees of other college reached there in jeans, they were allowed to work there, but attendence was not given for that day.We were also not allowed to sit there after 5pm.At last, but not the least,Training at Vardhman was a learning experience for me.

  28. Dear mam,
Its really nice to be with you again in this semester.hoping for very energatic and healthy sessions wid u again.
well about my training, i did the same in Motherson Automotive Technologies and Engg. (MATE),Noida a goup company of Motherson. It basically manufacturs auto- component parts for all the OEM's all over the world.its turnover is 2.2 billion The company has presence in 20 countries. Its a Tier one company for manufacturing auto parts.in total there are 32,000 professionals associated with the group. so to manage such a huge workforce the company have a HR which follows the common HR practices throughout the group.

well, my experience wid the company is great.its a highly professional company. On the very first day i went under the orientation program which lasts for the whole day. This program was basically to introduce me to the whole group and it was given to me by Training and Development head of the company.

i have undertaken 2 projects, the first was regarding Export, import procedure.and in addition to this the role of banks in Export and import for Remmittence of money. secondly i was given a live project, tp identify the new polymer product for the company which it can manufacture , and also to find the best suitable export market for the same. so in concern of this project i need to go to various departments of the company like Engg.department for all the technicalities of the product, costing dept. for the cost analysis, finace for financing and marketing dept. for the market analysis as wel as for finding the payback of the product. so in total it was a gr8 learning for me.
Apart from this project work the i learnt how people carry themselves in such big organisations, how they manage stress, how they meet their deadlines , how they work smart, how they work in teams...... and also how the team leader motivate their subordinates...........
so on the whole gr8 learnings over there..

  29. Hello Ma'am,
I did my training in Aarti International Ltd., Chandigarh road, Ludhiana. Aarti International Ltd. is an EOU exclusively dealing in 100% cotton yarn exports. I duly gave importance to departmentalization where I spent 5-6 days in each department, I noted that factor which is leading to growth is their continuity without any distortion, as there are 3 shifts for workers 8 hour each so the work goes on 24 hours.
"Spirituality At Work Place Award",is the award given to employees who are able to make equality and harmony in the organization as people belong from different religions it is very difficult to make them work all together without any hurdle. HR manager is the Care Taker of every single minute thing, as any spark can lead to fire,HR manager always extinguish such irrelevant things which could become a reason for an organization to pause its activities and face losses.

  30. Dear mam
I did my trining in Crystal Electric Company Private Limited. They are into the business of manufacturing Industrial switchgears, established in 1960, currently owned and managed by father and three sons.
Its really a great learning experience for me there.
As HR of the company is concerned, The comapny is having a lame HR department thats why they are unable to retain the employees for more than 5 years. The production is divided into the departments based on the type of switchgear they manufacture.
The major attraction to retain the employees for 5 years is only salary. Because they recruit mostly freshers and after 5 yrs the salary becomes stagnent with very little opportunities to grow, so they leave the organisation.
As we all know that hr is a very important part of any organisation , but here in our company the hr department is not given a due importance, which should be there.
I suggested them to have the social activities for the employees so that the employees feel connected with the organisation. Also the HR department should adopt some retention schemes so the cost of recruitment can be saved. Also the employees should be provided with trainigs at greater extent.

  31. Good evening mam,
I have done my training at Envision Exports Pvt. Ltd which is a trading firm into Yarn sector. The staff of the company was very nice, friendly and cooperative. They helped me alot in my Project. They even got my appointment fixed with leading textile companies of Ludhiana to help me interact with them. Also it was the policy of the company to maintain discipline. We were even scolded once for being late on training.
But it was a shock for me to see that the company didn't have any Hr department. All the activities related to hr were handled by single person. Also the employees were not satisfied with the working hours of the company. As on some days they have to work till 8.30 p.m.Communication barrier with foreign customers may sometimes pose a problem for the employees.
But the company also did some fun events to reduce the tension of employees like they organized an exhibition of yarn. Also in order to relax the employees a bit, they also organized a lunch for them.
Overall it was a great learning experience.

    Regards,
    Manpreet

  33. Hello Ma'am,
I did my training in Aarti International Ltd., Chandigarh road, Ludhiana. Aarti International Ltd. is an EOU exclusively dealing in 100% cotton yarn exports. It was a good learning experience. I came to know about the different types of cotton that aarti is purchasing and how yarn is manufactured from this cotton. I spend 5-6 days in each department.
Aarti has separate hr department where all the issues regarding hr are dealt with. Aarti has different awards for employees like "Spirituality At Work Place Award" given to the employees who are able to make equality and harmony in the organization as people have different religions and backgrounds so it is very difficult to make them work all together. HR manager is the one who takes care of all the problems of employees and try to solve them asap so that organization work will not get affected.
    Regards

  34. Hello Ma'am,
I have already submitted you written assignment on HR policies. But i also want to share on blog.
I did my summer training in vardhman textiles limited, Ludhiana. It was very learning experience for me. The best thing that i had learnt is the practical implementation of theoretical concepts as performance appraisal, training and development, TPM, TQM and many more. My project was all about study and analysis of shipment and transportation cost of vardhman textiles limited. I have spent some time in each department to know the actual working of them. if we talk about HR, vardhman is very concerned about its human assets. There are strict policies regarding coming and leaving on time, regarding formals, training programmes, development activites etc. Work culture was very good and it was effectively handled by HR department.
